Producer Information: The Macallan

The Macallan, established in 1824 on a plateau above the River Spey in Craigellachie, Scotland, has built its legacy as a single malt Scotch whisky producer deeply rooted in the Speyside region’s rich distilling heritage. Founded by Alexander Reid, The Macallan distinguishes itself through an unwavering commitment to using sherry-seasoned oak casks sourced from Jerez, Spain, which impart signature depth and complexity to their whiskies. Their production philosophy centers on small stills and meticulous cask selection to achieve exceptional quality and character unique to the area’s terroir. While The Macallan is singularly focused on crafting single malt Scotch whisky and does not diversify into other wines or spirits under its own label, its parent company Edrington also manages other notable brands such as Highland Park from Orkney and The Famous Grouse blended Scotch, each with distinct regional identities and production traditions within Scotland’s whisky landscape.
